Be Content, Heb. 13:5a AMP

Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have;

Heb. 13:5a AMP

So, let's stop right there.  No need to finish the rest of the scripture because we already know the rest:  that He’ll never leave us nor forsake us.  An all too famous scripture.  However, I feel that sometimes we overlook the beginning of Hebrews 13:5.  Let your character be free from the love of money being content with what you have.  Yes, read that again.  Not money itself.  Don’t get it twisted as the legal and religious people do.  Yes, I said what I said.  It says “the love of money”, which is also mentioned in 1 Tim. 3:3, 1 Tim. 6:9-10 and Ecc. 5:10.  And, before 1 Tim. 6:9-10, the verses 6 through 8 discuss being content.  In Matthew 6:24 we’re told we can’t serve two masters and in Mark 4:19 we’re told not to be distracted by the things of this world.  The “love” of money.  Apparently this is important.

However, more important is the latter part:  being content with what you have.  Funny thing is most people aren’t content if they don’t trust and believe in the end of Hebrews 13:5.  He will never leave you nor forsake you.  This is where you have to trust God.  If He has supplied all your needs (Phil. 4:19) then be content with what you have.  Be content in knowing that He shall supply everything else.  Be content in your walk.  Be content with what you have:  You have Jesus, and that is everything.
