Battle of the Flesh, Gal. 5:17amp

 Devo 3/7/25….

For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the [a]sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do.  Gal. 5:17amp

This is the greatest battle of all time.  Nothing beats this showdown.  It is a battle that we will continue to fight, as long as we dwell in our earthly vessels.  Our flesh never wants to do the things of the Spirit.  And, our Spirit man refuses to do the things of the flesh.

Paul laid it out plainly in Romans 7:14-25 and in great details our daily struggle.  Thus the reason why we must pray daily against our flesh.  This is why we must stay in our Word so we can combat the flesh with the Word, which is our sword as mentioned in Ephesians 6:17 and in Hebrews 4:12.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Eph. 6:17amp

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged [a]sword, penetrating as far as the division of the [b]soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.  Heb. 4:12amp

But, one of the most important scriptures in the battle against our flesh is Proverbs 27:17:  As iron sharpens iron,  So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].  It means we have each other to lean on.  If you’re struggling, call on your brother or your sister for advice, wisdom, and support.  As believers lifting one another up, encouraging each other and praying for one another is one of the biggest victories in our battle against our flesh:

Lean on me

When you're not strong

And I'll be your friend

I'll help you carry on…
