Should've Been Dead on a Sunday Morning, Luke 15:11-32amp

 Devo 1/2/26….

My Own Prison

Creed

Court is in session, a verdict is in

No appeal on the docket today just my own sin

The walls cold and pale, the cage made of steel

Screams fill the room, alone I drop and kneel

Silence now the sound, my breath the only motion around

Demons cluttering around, my face showing no emotion

Shackled by my sentence, expecting no return

Here there is no penance, my skin begins to burn

so I held my head up high

Hiding hate that burns inside

Which only fuels their selfish pride

(And I said, oh) all held captive out from the sun

A sun that shines on only some

We the meek are all in one

I hear a thunder in the distance, see a vision of a cross

I feel the pain that was given on that sad day of loss

A lion roars in the darkness, only he holds the key

A light to free me from my burden and grant me life eternally

Should have been dead on a Sunday morning, banging my head

No time for mourning

Ain't got no time

Should have been dead on a Sunday morning, banging my head

No time for mourning

Ain't got no time

so I held my head up high

Hiding hate that burns inside

Which only fuels their selfish pride

(And I said, oh) all held captive out from the sun

A sun that shines on only some

We the meek are all in one

I cry out to God, seeking only His decision

Gabriel stand and confirms, I've created my own prison

I cry out to God, seeking only His decision

Gabriel stand and confirms, I've created my own prison

Should have been dead on a Sunday morning, banging my head

No time for mourning

Ain't got no time

This was us before we let Christ intervene. This was us lower than rock bottom and then Christ shows up down there with us. This was Mary Magdalene, this was the woman with issue of blood, this was the woman who'd been married 5 times, this was Saul before he was Paul, this was Thomas before he touched the nail scared hands and put his hand in His side, this was Peter after he denied Him 3 times, this was the man who said I believe help my unbelief, this was Zaccheus who climbed a tree just to SEE Him, this was the woman at the well, this was David, Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Daniel in the lions den, Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego, this was Jonah in the whale, and this was most definitely the prodigal son when he finally woke up, realized that he needed the Father and came home. This is all of us. There is only one who can free you from your own prison. There is only one who can free you from your sin. There is only one who can come to your defense and acquit you of your sin. There is only one who paid the ultimate price to set you free who stood and stands in the gap for you now.

“I cry out to God, seeking only His decision” His decision was compassion on you.  He sent His one and only begotten son to be sacrificed for us all. That was God's decision.

John 3:16-17 AMP

[16]  “For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send the Son into the world to judge and condemn the world [that is, to initiate the final judgment of the world], but that the world might be saved through Him.

Psalms 18:6 AMP

[6] In my distress [when I seemed surrounded] I called upon the Lord And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry for help came before Him, into His very ears.

Romans 8:1-4 AMP

[1] Therefore there is now no condemnation [no guilty verdict, no punishment] for those who are in Christ Jesus [who believe in Him as personal Lord and Savior]. [John 3:18] [2] For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

Ephesians 2:8 AMP

[8] For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God;

“Should've been dead on a Sunday morning” That was all of us at one time. Those of us that understand addictions. All of us who did things that were way out of character. Those of us who walked away from our walk with Christ for a time. We know God's patience and love and grace kept us. We put ourselves in situations we shouldn't have been in and it should've cost us our lives but God kept us. Should've been dead on a Sunday morning but God sent His son. Should've been dead on a Sunday morning but He saw us from afar and had compassion on us. Should've been dead on a Sunday morning but God gave us free and unmerited favor. Even though we had created our own prison through our own selfish choices He still saved us. He still loves us. He's still faithful.

2 Timothy 2:13 AMP

[13] If we are faithless, He remains faithful [true to His word and His righteous character], for He cannot deny Himself.

John 1:14, 16

Romans 8:1-4; 9:9-10,13
