The Greatest, Deut. 6:5amp
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and mind and with all your soul and with all your strength [your entire being].
Deut. 6:5amp
We all definitely know this scripture. However, we need to be reminded of the fact that Jesus quotes this scripture in Matthew 22:35-38: One of them, a lawyer [an expert in Mosaic Law], asked Jesus a question, to test Him: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 And Jesus replied to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
Which makes this not only more important but a lot heavier because Jesus, the Son of God, who died for you, said that this was the first and greatest commandment. Are you loving the Lord with all your heart? With all your soul? With all your mind? With all your strength and entire being? Have you asked yourself these questions recently? It’s time to do some spiritual inventory. It’s time to clean house. It’s time to lay waste to the things that don’t belong in your life anymore. Time to destroy the numerous distractions in your life that are keeping you from your one true love: Jesus. We spend time and energy on what we care about and value most. What are you spending your time and energy on? If it’s not Jesus then you’re not doing Deut. 6:5. You’re going to spend time and energy on what you love the most.
For where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also. Matthew 6:21amp
