Essence of His Righteousness, 1 John 3:9amp
Devo 10/18/25…
[9] No one who is born of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, because God’s seed [His principle of life, the essence of His righteous character] remains [permanently] in him [who is born again—who is reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose]; and he [who is born again] cannot habitually [live a life characterized by] sin, because he is born of God and longs to please Him.
Good morning and Amen! If we are truly born of God we will not habitually practice sin. Not knowingly and deliberately due to the essence of His righteousness living within us. Not our righteousness or because we’ve done a bunch of good works but His righteousness living within us, so it’s nothing we’ve done. It’s what the Lord has done. It’s what He did over 2000 years ago on the cross: He stood in our place. If He hadn’t then His righteousness would not be able to live inside of us. It also is the reason why when you stumble you get back up and continue to pursue Him. If He didn’t live inside of you you wouldn’t have the conviction to stand again. It is His Spirit within you that won’t allow you to continue in your sin. The Spirit within you will remind you of who you are and who you belong to. It will tell you yes you stumbled but I’m here so you can get back up. “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again,” Prov. 24:16 NLT
The Holy Spirit within us reminds us why He died on the cross so we can get up and walk again. That’s what the blood and the grace of Christ is for. When you stumble you will get up again. When you long to please Him you will get up. This is why when you run from God you will always come back if He is truly in you. This is why the prodigal got up out of the pig pen because He truly loved the Father. If He hadn’t he wouldn’t have stayed where he was. Remember just because you have stumbled doesn’t mean He loves you less. And it doesn’t mean He’s not inside of you. If He’s in you, when you stumble is when you would feel His presence more because He’s urging you to get back up. He loves you even more because He knows the “essence of His righteous character” lives in you and that you will get back up.
