I absolutely love this song by Michael Sweet because it is the desperate cry that we should have each and every morning when we first wake up.  We can not make it without Jesus and that’s what this song says.  You will not make it without Jesus, one minute, one hour, one day, one week or one month, without Him. This song admits that we need Jesus.  This song admits that we need to be saved. 

For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the [a]sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do.  Gal. 5:17amp

That scripture right there is why we need Him every hour.  The Spirit that lives inside of us is constantly at war with our flesh.  It is a daily battle.  Only Jesus can win this battle for us.  Only Jesus can give us peace in the midst of this battle.  Only Jesus can provide wisdom, comfort and guidance in the middle of this battle.  He is our life, light and strength by day and by night.  Every hour of every day we need Jesus. 

1 Samuel 2:2 AMP

[2] “There is no one holy like the Lord, There is no one besides You, There is no Rock like our God.

O God, You are my God; with deepest longing I will seek You;

My [a]soul [my life, my very self] thirsts for You, my flesh longs and sighs for You,

In a dry and weary land where there is no water.  Ps. 63:1amp

Because there is no one like Jesus, no one as holy and no foundation stronger than Jesus.  He is the Rock that we cling to every hour.  When you know that you need Him every hour you will relentlessly seek Him every day.  When you genuinely and sincerely seek Him you thirst for Christ.  Your flesh needs Him to be satisfied.  (Ps. 42:1-2)

Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment].  Hebrews 4:16amp

When you finally realize that you can’t do it without Him, when you finally realize that you need Him every hour Hebrews 4:16 becomes real to you.  You will approach His throne with confidence and without fear because you know that He is the only one that can help you in your time of need.  And you NEED Him every hour.
