Make Jesus Your Habit, Ps. 1:1-3amp
[1] Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers). [2] But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. [Rom 13:8-10; Gal 3:1-29; 2 Tim 3:16] [3] And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity]. [Jer 17:7, 8]
Taking a look at verse 3 first, “a tree firmly planted (and fed) by streams of water”. The coolest thing about trees is that their roots will always find water. No matter how far down or how far they have to go they will find water. Which is how we should be when we seek God. We should want to find God. We should want to be near God. We should want to abide Him, so He can abide in us. We need His living water so that we can truly live and live the life He has called us to live.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:8ESV
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5ESV
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14NIV
Now let’s go back and look at verse 2, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night.” The keyword is in parenthesis: habitually. Make it your HABIT to read the Word. Make it your HABIT to meditate on His word day AND night. Jesus is the Word, John 1:1 & 14, make it your HABIT to be with Him daily. Spend time with Him daily. Blessed is the man who abides in Him and spends time with Him. If you want to be fruitful and prosper, then abide in Him. Spend time with Him.
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35
Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12-13, Matthew 14:23, Mark 7:34-35, John 6:11 & John 11:41-42: Jesus set the example for prayer, therefore we need to live by it. When it is our HABIT to be with Jesus, everything we do shall prosper.
