Take Pleasure, Ps. 37:4AMP

Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart.  Ps. 37:4NIV

Delight yourself in the Lord,

And He will give you the desires and petitions of your heart.  Ps. 37:4AMP

Today let us take a look at a scripture that is not only quoted all the time but is usually misquoted or half quoted most of the time.  Nine times out of ten most people will quote the Lord “will give you the desires of your heart”, and totally leave out the first part of the whole scripture which states, “Delight yourself in the Lord” or “Take delight in the Lord”.

People forget that part for some reason.  Do we wonder or know why? What is the definition of delight?  The verb is:  please (someone) greatly.  The noun is:  great pleasure.

So, please the Lord greatly or take great pleasure in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Ask yourself a question:  Are you pleasing the Lord greatly and are you taking great pleasure in the Lord?  Are you taking great pleasure in the Lord and the things of the Lord?  Or are you taking great pleasure in the world and the things of the world?  Because if you are taking great pleasure in the things of the world and not of God, then you will not get the desires of your heart.  Remember it says, “Take delight” or “Delight yourself” in who?  The Lord.  And He will give you the desires of your heart.  Stop pleasing the world and satisfying its needs.  The Amplified version says, “and petitions of your heart”.  So, the requests that you make will be satisfied when you take delight in the Lord.  Those deep heartfelt requests that have been there for years will be fulfilled when you take great deep pleasure in the Lord.  When you take pleasure in His ways, His wisdom and not your own.

The ultimate pleasure principle: sincerely seek to please the Lord and get the desires of your heart. His desire is that you desire Him. Only the Lord can satisfy your heart:  Oh, my meters running so I got to go now/

It's the pleasure principle, oh oh oh/ It's the principle of pleasure, oh/ It's the pleasure principle, oh oh.  Seeking Him satisfies all of your needs (Phil. 4:19).

When you allow God to please you, then your heart will be pleased.  Your heart is pleased, when its desires are met and they are met only when you take pleasure in the Lord.
