Another Vice, John 14:16AMP
Sting of the needle dropping on a vinyl
Neon singer with a jukebox title full of heartbreak
33, 45, 78
When it hurts this good you gotta play it twice
Another vice
[Verse 1]
All dressed up in a pretty black label
Sweet salvation on a dining room table
Waiting on me
Where the numb meets the lonely
It's gone before it ever melts the ice
[Chorus 1]
Another vice, another call
Another bed I shouldn't crawl out of
At 7 AM with shoes in my hand
Said I wouldn't do it, but I did it again
And I know I'll be back tomorrow night, oh (Vice, by Miranda Lambert)
Yes, on Behind the Music, Miranda Lambert confirmed the song's meaning: "Everybody has a vice they run to when they need comfort…”
And she’s right. Even those of us who are believers still have vices. We all know that there are some of us who say they can’t function without coffee in the morning when we all know that we actually could. Just saying. However, on a serious note, there are some of us who aren’t believers and some who are, that are struggling with something daily in their lives (But we are free to struggle in Christ, Gal. 5:1). Some of us who look like we have it all together, by the way no one has it all together, are usually the ones struggling the most but don’t want you to know it. They are also the ones who are letting pride get in the way of them receiving help from anyone but especially from the One who can deliver them.
Everyone has a weakness in their character due to the fact that we are human. Anyone who says they don’t is a liar. There is only one man who ever lived that didn’t and His name is Jesus. And because we all have a weakness in our character, because we all have fallen short of the glory of God, we need Jesus. When we hear this song, all it is, is an immensely reminder that we all need Jesus. Only Jesus can keep you from doing it again. Only the Holy Spirit can give you the strength, will power and self control not to do it again. Only His presence will keep you from playing it twice because in His presence you won’t even have the gumption to do it once.
Our comfort should never be found in the things of this world (1 John 2:16). Our comfort should always be found in the arm of our Lord. Our comfort and peace is always found in His presence. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [a]Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— John 14:16AMP
(Romans 3:23 & 8:11, Gal. 5:22-23, John 3:17, 2 Cor. 12:9)
No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Cor. 10:13NIV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10NIV
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12NIV
