Mercy for All, Psalms 145:9ESV

Psalm 145:9 ESV

[9] The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

The word right here teaches us that our God is good to all.  And if, we are to be examples of Him then we should be too. Good to all means, the drinker, the smoker, the adulterer, the promiscuous one, the liar, the homosexual, the arrogant, the glutton, the greedy, you get my point. It means ALL.

The next part of the verse is just as important or maybe more so in that it implies everyone has mercy. I mean it says, "His mercy is over all that He Has made". It's pretty cut and dry to me. God made the earth and everything and everyone in it. Therefore, His mercy is over all of us, the "good" and the "bad".  So, let me go down the list one more time. His mercy is over the drinker, the smoker, the adulterer, the promiscuous one, the liar, the homosexual, the arrogant, the glutton, the greedy, you get my point. It means His mercy is over ALL.

Those of you who are even saved yet, He has given you mercy. That is how much He loves you. Think of how much better your life on this planet would be if you gave your life to Him?

Mercy is defined as compassion, leniency, or restraint (as in imposing punishment) shown especially to an offender or to one subject to the power of another; or shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.   It involves choosing to withhold punishment, showing kindness to an offender, or providing relief to someone in distress.

We are all both. We are simultaneously in distress and we are repeat offenders. Our distress is that we are repeat offenders and we need Jesus to save us. (Rom. 3:23 & 10:9-10)

(John 3:17 & 10:10)

He is still extending mercy today and it lasts until He returns to bring us home. Unfortunately, we don't know when that is, so I don't know how long until that mercy runs out.  But, in light of knowing that today, it's time to reconsider who you will follow: yourself or Jesus? Right now if you don't know Him, it's like having uninsured motorist coverage. That can only cover you for so long.  With Jesus you got full coverage and He has already paid the cost for you because of mercy:  Luke 15:20, And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.

Remember, tomorrow may never come. Just start to make your way towards Him and He will meet you halfway:  Draw near to God and He will draw near to you, James 4:8a. No matter who you are, His mercy is for all.
