Keep the Fire Burning, Jer. 20:9NLT

But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord

    or speak in his name,

His word burns in my heart like a fire.

    It’s like a fire in my bones!

I am worn out trying to hold it in!

    I can’t do it!

Jer. 20:9NLT

Amen! Remember this is how we felt when we first came to the Lord.  How do we keep the fire burning?  Thus the reason the relationship is correlated to a bride and groom.  We the Church are the bride.  How do we keep the fire burning? 

When you are in a relationship with someone you cultivate it by spending time with them everyday.  There are conversations about all types of topics.  What are your likes and dislikes? What makes you happy?  What makes you sad?  It is about getting to know each other.  Getting to know what makes each other tick. 

When you do know all of that you don’t want to stop talking about that person.  That person becomes your world.  They become your everything.  Not talking about that one, your one person, automatically becomes a part of your vocabulary.  You can’t go a day without talking about this person.  You never go a day without thinking about this person. It’s not something you can do:  not talk about your person.  You might explode if you kept inside how you felt about this one person.  

This is what Jeremiah feels about the Lord.  This is how we should feel about the Lord.  What I just described in the first two paragraphs is what we did when we had our first girlfriend or boyfriend. We spent all of our time with them and that’s all we talked about in every conversation we had.  It’s how we need to talk about the Lord.  It’s how our relationship should be with the Lord.  The way we keep that fire burning is by spending all of our time with Him. We need to always be at the point of being worn out if we don’t mention the Lord in our conversations just like we always had to mention our girlfriend or boyfriend back in high school.  Keep the Lord first and foremost in your mind.  Keep the Lord first in your conversations.  Make the Lord the first person that you always talk to.  Keep the fire burning.
