Hillary Scott & the Scott Family: Thy Will
Thy Will
Hillary Scott and the Scott Family
Lyrics/Chorus:
I know you're good
But this don't feel good right now
And I know you think
Of things I could never think about
It's hard to count it all joy
Distracted by the noise
Just trying to make sense
Of all your promises
Sometimes I gotta stop
Remember that you're God
And I am not
So
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
Thy will be done
This is such a great song by Hillary Scott! I hope you took the time to listen to it before getting into this devotional, if not you’ve missed out on a great worship song.
My local worship station here, KCBI, recently has been playing this song again, in other words, it’s back in medium rotation at least, for you fellow broadcasters reading this. I had forgot how great this song was and have been brought to tear most of the times I’ve heard it in the past few days. I remember when she released this album, I spun it continuously for months. This song rings so true with all of us as we go through things in life we don’t want to have to endure. We face trials we refuse to face, etc. These situations as the lyrics say don’t make us feel good and sometimes, we get upset with Him. But, in those moments we remember that we are not God and deep within our heart of hearts we know He has a greater plan, if we take our hands off of the situation and say, “Thy will be done,” (Matt. 6:10) regardless of what is happening. His will outweighs what we want and we as humans always want to do what we want (Prov. 16:9). Our selfishness and pride take over. We lose sight of His purpose and plan. First, we must always remember:
Ps. 30:5b amp, Weeping may endure for a night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 71:20-21
Amplified Bible
20
You who have shown [a]me many troubles and distresses
Will revive and renew me again,
And will bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
21
May You increase my greatness (honor)
And turn to comfort me.
1 Peter 5:10
Amplified Bible
10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor], who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ, will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be].
Romans 12:12
Amplified Bible
12 constantly rejoicing in hope [because of our confidence in Christ], steadfast and patient in distress, devoted to prayer [continually seeking wisdom, guidance, and strength],
In light of all of this God’s will must still be done. Jesus, showed us this through His example of selflessness by dying on the cross for us. He prayed for His Father’s will to be done even though it cost Him His life, His example shows us that we as humans must, can and will see our Father’s will done on earth as it is in heaven (Matt. 6:10).
As His son, He recognized and gave honor and glory to the Father by saying not my will but yours be done; and He knew all things were possible through Him but God’s will, still must be done!
Mark 9:23
Amplified Bible
23 Jesus said to him, “[You say to Me,] ‘If You can?’ All things are possible for the one who believes and trusts [in Me]!”
Mark 14:36
Amplified Bible
36 He was saying, “[a]Abba, Father! All things are possible for You; take this cup [of judgment] away from Me; but not what I will, but what You will.”
Luke 22:42
Amplified Bible
42 saying, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup [of divine wrath] from Me; yet not My will, but [always] Yours be done.”
All believers should be living by His example. Our prayers should echo His. If Jesus Himself has to come under the authority of God’s will, then why aren’t you?
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Amplified Bible
16 Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day. 17 For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]! 18 So we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are unseen; for the things which are visible are temporal [just brief and fleeting], but the things which are invisible are everlasting and imperishable.
Ps. 30:5, Matt. 6:10, Mark 14:36, Luke 22:42 & Prov. 16:9
Father, we ask that we decrease and that you would increase in our minds, spirit, and soul. We ask that your will be done in our lives and never our own. Teach us to be selfless like you! We ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
