1 John 4:19 AMP, He first loved us, so you must love others!

We love, because He first loved us.  1 John 4:19 AMP

Keeping it strictly simple.  This is why we are to love others; because He first loved us.  Since the dawn of time, God, Jesus, has loved us.  Before He came to the planet, He loved us (John 1:1-5; 14 & Lamentations 3:22). 

If He loved us for all eternity, what is keeping you from loving your neighbor?  He has loved us in spite of our shortcomings; so what is keeping you from loving your neighbor?  Christ has set the example, as a believer, why aren't you following it?
