Birthday Devotional (9/21/25)
Thank you David Briscoe for offering up two amazing questions for me to answer for my birthday and birthdays to come! Much love to you brother!
The best thing that happened to me this last year would be getting promoted to Assistant Grocery Manager. I got promoted in December of last year and now I’m gunning for my next promotion to Grocery Manager. I’m staring down two interviews next week for this promotion for two different stores, so hopefully I’ll get to choose between the two. Prayers are needed for that.
And something great that happened because of me would be that I made a new friend. I found a new brother in the Lord here in Midlothian named Jeremy. Since, I’ve been obedient in leaving ministry cards for my church everywhere, Jeremy came across one at the Love’s here in town and reached out to our church; and in turn I reached out to him (Visit his blog here: https://hiscopilot.blogspot.com). We met the next week for coffee and found out we had a lot in common. Since then we’ve been supporting each other with prayers and devotionals. As the scripture says, “iron sharpens iron”.
I’ll take this opportunity to say that Jeremy loved our mission statement and vision; and all that we are about. If you’re needing a place to worship or to call home or especially an online presence to call home visit The First Heavy Metal Church of Christ (https://www.heavymetalchurch.com). I’m the minister for the Dallas chapter and we’d love to have you or if you just want prayer reach out to us!
To add to this, there are two divine moments that stand out to me from this past year. Praying for James Whitlock’s sister at All Saints Hospital in Ft. Worth. A gentleman the Holy Spirit had me pray for while my wife was currently in the hospital. His sister was in ICU battling stage four cancer. She did go on to be with the Lord about a week later but I know the Lord put me in his path for comfort because sometimes we just need someone to talk to.
The other one happened while on vacation this past August, in Orlando and it happened on our second to last day there. We were staying at the Orlando Courtyard Marriott, which made our trip absolutely amazing but on our checkout day I had to return a motorized chair to the front desk before we left. The young man at the front desk, Maurice, who had been nothing but beyond helpful to us the entire time we were there, I found out was not only a newlywed like me technically; but is also a believer. As he helped me get the chair back in the building we talked and he asked me a golden question: How can I be a better husband to my wife?
To be an older man being able to share this with a young man was an awesome moment. I told Maurice that his job was twofold: first, to serve his wife and second, to protect her.
Above all things serve your wife: Husbands, love your wives [seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love], just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, Eph. 5:25amp. Christ came to serve the church and He died for us. We as husbands are to do the same for our wives. In Genesis 2:23, Adam says, “She shall be called woman”. Just as Adam was responsible for Eve, we are responsible for our wives. We are to protect them. This wisdom that I’ve finally understood, I was able to impart to this young man alone with the three things that will always get him and his wife through life: Therapy, Gym and Jesus. God used me for such a time as that to speak into his life. I can’t tell you how humbling that was for me. It is something that I will never forget.
I pray the Lord continues to give me these experiences and that He gives them to you as well. Be blessed today!
