Hope and a Future, Prov. 23:17ESV
[17] Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. [18] Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.
Indeed, let not your heart envy sinners. Let not your heart envy those who choose not to do as the Lord asks. Let not your heart envy those who choose not to fear the Lord or walk in His ways. Those of us who do “fear the Lord” should not stop doing so. The fear of the Lord is the beginning wisdom and those who do not are not wise. Do not think that your life would be better if you quit following the Lord or choose not to walk in His ways. To follow the ways of the world is folly. Your future is in the Lord not the world or the things in it. Yes, we quote this numerous times but it is true: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future, Jeremiah 29:11NIV. The Lord does have plans for you and those plans are to prosper you not to harm you. John 3:17 tells us He came here to save us and John 10:10 says He came that we might have life and life more abundantly. So, yes, do not, I repeat, do not envy sinners, because they have no hope or a future like you. Your hope and your future rest in the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. Those of the world trust in the world and the world will end. Those of us who belong to Jesus trust in Jesus and Jesus is eternal. We never have to worry about anything because we have Jesus. Everything that He has we have and that is more than anything that this world has to offer.
