Walk Humbly, Micah 6:8ESV

Micah 6:8 ESV

[8] He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Good morning! Yes, you’ve been told.  Hello? God has already told us more than once what is good.  He has told us throughout all creation, through other people and through prayer, etc.  The Lord has never stopped speaking to us, so we should never stop listening.

Required of us?  To do justice by others, show love and kindness to one another and to walk in humbleness with the Lord (Deut. 10:12).  We should be doing these things daily, not just when we choose.  However, I know that it is easier said than done because we have this thing called the flesh that gets in the way.  We have our pride that gets in the way.  That’s the one thing that will definitely keep you from being kind to someone.  It totally destroys love.  And it dismantles humbleness which can cause you to look like a fool in the end.  Go read the story of Namann (2 Kings 5).

Justice:  to do right by someone.  Kindness:  to show compassion to someone.  Christ did this everyday.  That is who He is:  compassion.  Christ embodies the definition of compassion.  Humbleness:  to think more of someone else than yourself. To decrease, as we are taught in John 3:30. This can all be summed up with:  And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength, Mark 12:30ESV.  When you are loving the Lord with all your heart, mind and strength, then you will be able to show others justice, kindness and humbleness.

Lord, help us to love you with all our hearts, minds and strength through the power of your Holy Spirit that we might do what is required of us.  To do justice, to show love and kindness to our fellow neighbor but most importantly to do it all in humility, in His name we pray, Amen.
